Since COVID-19 reached the UK, the SheffMUN Secretariat and I have maintained that SheffMUN will only run if safe, in line with University and Government Guidelines. The Secretariat remained steadfast in its commitment to hold SheffMUN in December this year, with all measures taken to ensure the safety of delegates, chairs and conference organisers throughout.
Recently, however, we were informed that our Studens' Union and University deemed it unsafe to host any events before Christmas 2020. Therefore, with regret, we must postpone SheffMUN until 2021 (date TBC).
As the cliché now goes, we truly are living in unprecedented times, but the Secretariat and I hope that once the COVID-19 situation is behind us, we can host you all in the wonderful city of Sheffield! I hope you are all staying safe and well. Please stay tuned to our website (sheffmun.co.uk) for further updates and developments. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any other queries.
Yours,
Kamil Rahman-Blake

SheffMUN X: Global Change: Risks, Responses and Responsibilities
SheffMUN X will commemorate the 10th year of Sheffield International MUN Conferences! We are looking forward to building upon the successes of last year’s conference and theme. In 2019, SheffMUN and its wonderful participants highlighted the contemporary challenges facing humanity in a digital world. Society is increasingly globalised and the challenges we face reflect that.
This year’s conference will host a variety of committees such as (but not limited to), the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) - perhaps for the traditionalists - and a unique United States of Europe Committee (USEC) for those perhaps looking for something new from MUN. This year, our committees will explore the evolving global power dynamics, the challenges arising from those changes and the ideological obstacles in the way of meeting those challenges as united nations - a United Nations.
With that said, the theme for SheffMUN X is: Global Change: Risks, Responses & Responsibilities. Climate change, global epidemics and refugee crises, the turn of the decade has brought new challenges to the fore, and reminded us that long-standing challenges are still yet to be rectified.
Of course, at a Sheffield conference, one benefits from the brilliant city itself. Emboldened by its industrial and political history, a beacon of the Iron Age and more recently the Industrial Revolution, Sheffield's present is as vast as its history. Two massive football clubs (Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday), the home of Henderson’s Relish and of course the pictuesque peak district.
This year, we will acquaint new SheffMUNers with the truly one-of-a-kind city and give those returning the chance to experience it again. There is no better way to do just that than at our memorable, value-for-money socials, with pizza, drinks and a club night (please drink responsibly).
Yours Sincerely,
Kamil Rahman-Blake
